What is a reading sheet?
A reading report, also called a “reading report”, is an essay on a book that you have read, in which you give your opinion and your analysis of what you have read. The reading sheet must contain the following elements: the title of the book (and its author), the identification of its theme or its main idea, the explanation of how this book changed it, the description of the interest in reading it. Here are some tips for writing good reports so you don’t waste time doing them!
What are the advantages ? What are they for ?
The objective of writing reports or reading sheets is mainly educational. Indeed, teachers use the work of their students to know whether they can pass or fail courses; they also allow parents who do not live with them to get an idea of their children’s situation. Additionally, reading reports are a good way to improve your vocabulary and language skills. It’s also an opportunity to read books that may not have been on the list but interest you!
How to write a good reading report?
In order to write a good reading sheet, it is important to know the steps to follow and to apply a few rules. Always remember that book reports are not book summaries. They must never be a copy of the book or reproduce its contents in their entirety.
The first step is to read and understand the book, take notes if necessary (for example if you don’t understand something) and summarize it. Without reading the book it is difficult to know what it contains, nor what it is used for, what the author meant, in what sense, etc.
Then write your report: title page with the name of the book, the name of the author, the date of publication…. Then start writing by describing what interested you in this book so that readers have an idea of why they should read it too! You can also mention how accurate your prediction of the beginning or end of the story was before reading it, to show your critical thinking
Finally, correct the spelling mistakes once again! Don’t forget that French teachers love correct grammar!
